"What do you do when it rains?"
Bryan and I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail together back in 2003 - 15 years ago. It was an especially wet year, and people always asked us, "what do you do when it rains?"
"We get wet," was my snarky answer. Really, we wore raincoats and use umbrellas, just like you do in normal life. It was a bit uncomfortable, but that's not uncommon while hiking 2,179 miles over 6 months and three seasons. We also learned that being wet isn't so bad.
"What do you do at Famous Adventures when it rains?"
We play in the rain! It's so warm in the summer, we can still surf, kayak, even play on the ropes course! In the afternoons, we might find shelter at a park and play games under the roof.
We take lightning very seriously. If it's too windy or if thunder is nearby (we have apps for that), we'll go inside - usually bowling or roller skating. Sometimes we're lucky to catch an early kids' movie. We try our best to reschedule if we miss an activity. We have awesome, flexible outfitters.
One day we were trying to find something fun to do in the rain, and camper asked "can we just play on the playground?" YES! It was awesome. We played soccer on a soaking wet field (we asked permission) and got totally muddy. A couple kids stayed under the shelter and played cards, which was also a great choice. Everyone was happy despite (or because of) the weather.
Get out your boots, raincoats and umbrellas and go play in the rain today! It's a lot of fun once you decide to get wet. And with a hot shower and fluffy towels close by, we are so blessed to be able to dry off and relax afterwards.
See you this summer, rain or shine!
